Eef Barzelay is the talented and witty singer songwriter behind the now defunct Clem Snide. Barzelay tours and records as a solo act with occasional backing musicians. Bandega Interview with Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide (November 2007)Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide scores in the name of Science.Q: How have your shows changed over the years? Has your perspective on performing live changed? A: It took many years for me but I finally got it. It's sort of like juggling, in that way that time is suspended. A sexy ebb and flow is created between me and the crowd and if all goes well there's a feeling of communion. I'm a generally misanthropic dude so it's good for me. I need it, I suppose. In the beginning it was more about me getting out of my own way. "To move like a boat untethered" - John Cage. Q: Describe the most memorable live show you've played. A: Once Clem Snide played a very unattended show in Kentucky. In a desperate attempt to liven things up I convinced the entire audience to switch places with me. We performed a triumphant few choruses of "I love the Unknown" with all of them (20 or so) on stage and me out amongst the sad, faded, beer soaked tables and chairs. Q: What venue do you consider to be your "home", where you feel most comfortable, with the crowd and the place itself? A: There are a few: Shubbas in Chicago, Tonic in NYC, 400 Bar in Minneappolis, Cafe du Nord for sure. Q: Describe the most enjoyable show you've ever experienced as a fan. A: Jimmy Scott at Birdland New Year's Eve 2001. I just love his voice so much and he pulls it way back (just how I like). Q: Describe your experience scoring the movie "Rocket Science"? A: It was very cool. I liked chasing after someone else's vision for a change. I got some money and a nice hotel in L.A. and they like just about every thing I threw at them. Everybody wins. I just picked around on a Uke and later we brought in all sorts of sounds like chord organ and accordion trombone. The soundtrack is real good. Download that shit yo! Show Reviews for
