Arlington, Virginia based Rachael Yamagata is a singer-songwriter who also plays the piano and acoustic guitar for her own songs. Yamagata began her musical career as a member of a funk band called Bumpus. Her solo career has taken a drastically different path than her work as a funk artist. Yamagata's low and drawn out singing layers on top of her minimalistic instrumentals to create an incredibly soothing style. Yamagata could be compared to Priscilla Ahn, but as mentioned, with some Fiona Apple-style deep vocals.
