The Strokes

After meeting in various international, private college-preperatory high schools, Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Fab Moretti and Albert Hammond formed the Strokes out of New York (while Cassablancas and Hammond attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts). Their potential appeared obvious from their start--so much so that Ryan Gentles, the booker for an extremely popular club in NY, quit the Mercury Lounge to become their full-time manager.

Gentles wasn't the only one to notice The Strokes' incredible potential for enormous success early on; upon the release of their 2001 The Modern Age EP (which included "Last Nite"), record labels began a heated battle to sign the band. The Strokes have since made Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Time and Entertainment Weekly named their 2001 album This Is It best album of the year. These are just two examples of the explosive recognition they have received since their very beginnings.

Citing The Velvet Underground has their main influence, The Strokes have a classic garage rock style. They are described as greatly contributing to the "garage and post-punk revival" of the early 2000s. Their songs are catchy and certainly dance-worthy.
